Travel

The author sees herself reflected in Jeff Koon's "Poppies" at Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao Spain.

To talk of “inhabiting dreams” without a section on travel would, for me, be disingenuous. To take off on an adventure to somewhere I’ve never been, or someplace I’ve been and yearn to return for more, gloriously punctuates my life, expands my mind and heart and heightens my awareness of relationships to my work, others and myself.

Travel excites the senses, takes the dust out of every day living, awakens us to possibilities, enriches our lives. It isn’t for everyone. But for those whom it is, you know what I’m talking about. Any excuse will do.

“For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.”Robert Louis Stevenson

Nothing gives me more juice than planning the next trip, and I constantly seek excuses – travel writing and coaching assignments, workshop facilitations, and FAM trips (as an independent travel agent – you can be one too!) or visits to, and meet-ups with, family and friends – that justify taking off.

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.” Bill Bryson
